About
MXF
Back in 1998, I guess, my
son Kody
began racing motocross. At the time my wife, daughter, Kody
and myself
would travel several weekends a month racing. At that time I
had an old
Canon Rebel which, at the time was all film. As you cam
imagine, I went
through a ton of film, and more importantly, a bunch of bad
pictures!
My first digital camera was an Olympus UZ something or
another and I
think it may have been 7 or 8 megapixel. At the time, it was
great for
me and I wasn't dropping off several rolls of film every
Monday morning.
I eventually moved up to the Rebel digital SLR series, which
as far as
DSLR camera's go, it's pretty low budget. I still have the
Rebel, and
use it all the time. I have upgraded lenses, and I'm looking
to upgrade
again soon, I think!
My philosophy of motocross photography is just what you see
in my
galleries, close up action shots. My goals, even early on
when I
started, was to get the eyes of the racer. I love seeing the
intensity
in the eyes, through the goggles, of the racers. Action
shots of
jumping is cool too, but for me, I like the close up and
personal
aspect of the racers.
More recently I have began to get more of the "casual"
shots, if you
will, of the riders and families in the pits, on the start
gate,
etc..., one of my favorite shots of Kody was at Bakersfield
MX, near
Linton IN, when he was on 65's. It was just a simple shot of
him
waiting on the line with his back to me. Colorful Bell
helmet, green
Fox gear and his number plate saying, Hamer...407. I still
cherish it
as one of my all time favorites, shot with the old Olympus!
What lies ahead? I don't know! I'd love to upgrade to a lot
more
equipment and market MXF a little more, well a lot more
actually. It's
been a hobby, and will always be a hobby for me. You
definitely won't
become a millionaire, shooting moto! But it's fun for me, I
get to meet
a lot of interesting people, make new friends, visit with
old friends
and basically get to be involved with the great sport of
motocross!
If you see me out and
about, stop
by and say hello!!
